Re: Closing State Parks Is A Concern Of All Californians
Mr. Schwarzenegger,
It is with all due respect and consideration that I write on behalf of Folk4Parks.org to ask you to work with the citizens of California to keep our state parks open. We are aware of the dire financial circumstances in this state and the complexity in balancing the budget and needs of such a diverse population.
We come to you on this issue specifically because our parks and open spaces are one of the few things common to every Californian-not to mention the millions who come from other states and across the world to visit the unmatched beauty of our backyard. Parks provide us with some breathing room in our crowded cities, and offer healthy, low-cost recreation for everyone who lives here. Our state parks are the last reminders of this state’s frontier history, and the best classroom to teach future generations of the importance of the environment.
We cannot expect the state to solve every problem without cooperation from the entire population. If the citizens of California pledge to raise half the deficit ($7 million) to keep our state parks open, will you pledge to match our contribution? In difficult times, we must work together, and certainly none of us in California are willing to see our parks closed.
I appreciate your time and consideration amidst what is certainly a demanding schedule in Sacramento.
Sincerely,
Christopher Grant Ward
